20. November 2020 / Successful seminar on cotton basics

On September 30, the Akademie für Textilveredlung (Academy on Textile Finishing) held again a seminar on cotton basics in cooperation with the Bremen Cotton Exchange and the Fibre Institute Bremen.

Initially planned for April, the seminar had to be postponed due to the pandemic and took place now on hygiene conditions. The presenters, Karsten Fröse and Elke Hortmeyer, both from the Bremen Cotton Exchange, as well as Axel Drieling, Fibre Institute Bremen, introduced the participants from the textile finishing industry to the world of cotton. On the premises of the Cotton Exchange they were given an overview of cotton qualities, market structures and sustainability aspects of the natural fibre. In addition to basic theoretical knowledge, the participants deepened their knowledge by practical exercises determining cotton quality. A tour of the cotton testing laboratory complemented the seminar day.

The journalist Birgit Jussen accompanied the participants and wrote a detailed report on the seminar for the magazine ‘R+W Textilzeitung’. You can read the article here (only in German):
