With its proposal “Global Cotton. One university – One book – One city”, the University of Bremen has won this year’s competition One University – One Bookjointly launched by the Stifterverband Deutsche Wissenschaft, the ZEIT Foundation and the Klaus Tschira Foundation. For its entry, the University of Bremen chose the book “Empire of Cotton. A New History of Global Capitalism” by Sven Beckert (2014).

Cotton is topic of a series of diverse events and lectures, that bring together scientiest, students and citizens of Bremen. The Bremen Cotton Exchange will be hosting some events as well.

Cotton and global trade have naturally a high relevance for the Bremen Cotton Exchange, so we are happy to support this project, that focuses on the natural fibre cotton and its linkage to the city of Bremen. It also offers the chance in addition to the historical perspectives on cotton trade to disseminate a more factual based view on the current cotton supply chain.
