10. September 2019 / Cotton Exchange was of Great Interest on Heritage Day

On Heritage Day, which was celebrated all over Germany on 8th September, there was considerable interest in tours of the historic Kontor house of the Bremen Cotton Exchange. Altogether, more than 150 people took part in the guided tours. The Bremer Touristik-Zentrale (Bremen Tourist Centre) guided five groups of visitors through the heritage protected building that dates from the year 1902 at hourly intervals. They drew attention to the treasures of the house, which was designed by Bremen architect Johann Georg Poppe for the purpose of cotton trade and cotton assessment: the impressive stairways, the
mosaics, the statue of Hermes in the portal and one of the last paternoster lifts in Germany as well as cotton samples from all over the world in the laboratory of ICA Bremen.

The Bremen Touristic Office, BTZ, also offers guided tours through the historic building at the Bremen market.
