Cotton is superior to synthetic and other fibre types. Of course, we have known this for a long time, but with regard to the production of face masks, this has been confirmed once again by the ICAC. In a research paper on the production of non-surgical face masks to protect against COVID-19 infection and spread it has now been announced that cotton is the best choice for non-surgical, do-it-yourself face masks due to its ability to absorb, dehydrate and deactivate the virus – in combination with the fact that it is biodegradable and can be impregnated with antimicrobial nanoparticles.
