31. March 2022 / Recruiting a New Team Member: Cotton Quality Manager

What the job brings:

The Bremen Cotton Exchange has been actively committed to the sustainable raw material cotton worldwide, and for 150 years. With our ICA Bremen laboratory, we are also a global authority when it comes to cotton quality. Cotton samples from all over the world are sent to Bremen to be tested on their quality – instrumentally and manually. In this environment, you will have the opportunity to develop into an international specialist and to make your mark. Your expertise will be in demand for presentations and seminars, as well as for consulting and in international working groups.

Your task:

You will learn the craft of manually classing cotton and thus become an important part of the team. You will be given the opportunity to become a specialist in the various aspects of cotton quality and to pass on this know-how. Through our network you will learn more about the cotton industry and contribute to the optimisation of our testing laboratory. In addition, project work means that there are many opportunities to become involved creatively in the current topics of the Cotton Exchange.

Your environment:

You will be part of a small team dealing with all facets of cotton. You will be given an intensive introduction to manual classing and the cotton industry, working closely with the Fibre Institute Bremen e. V. which operates the instrument testing part of the laboratory. Your working time will be divided between practical work, organising the orders in contact with international customers, project work and seminars, including travel. This is a permanent, full-time position (40 hours/week). The position offers interesting opportunities for development and long-term prospects.

What you bring with you:

The Bremen Cotton Exchange acts in a global environment. We are looking for people who are interested in cotton, are open-minded and enjoy working on a wide range of topics, who think internationally and are familiar with cultural awareness. Ideally, you will bring the following with you:

Education:

A degree or comparable course of study which has provided extensive textile or material expertise.

Your experience:

International project experience would be advantageous but is not a requirement. Possible commercial experience or experience in the quality assessment of textiles.

Your skills:

Knowledge of fibre and/or textile qualities, tactile skills and accuracy, technical interest, fluent German and very good written and spoken English skills, a structured way of working and a passion for natural fibres and the textile world.
