David May succeeds Axel Herrmann as an expert in the processing of composite materials. His current focus lies on digitalized process and material development.
Following his university degree in Industrial Engineering and Management, specializing in Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, he was employed as scientific assistant at the Institute für Verbundwerkstoffe in the field of manufacturing science. In July 2015 he received his doctorate degree for his dissertation dealing with the impregnation behavior of textile reinforcements. In January 2016 he became manager of the competence field „Impregnation & Preform Technologies“ and also lecturer for the TUK for “integrated product development with composites”. Most recently, he led interdisciplinary research groups on the topics of composites for mobility and transport as well as digitalization.
As head of the Faserinstitut Bremen, May will work on topics such as joining technologies for fiber composites as part of the Airbus endowed professorship in addition to the general FIBRE topics of fibers, technical textiles and composites.
