7. October 2026 / World Cotton Day 2026

Cotton Connects People, Markets and Generations

The Bremen Cotton Exchange recognises the global significance of a unique natural fibre. Cotton clothes people, generates income and employment, and connects markets across continents. To mark World Cotton Day on 7 October, the Bremen Cotton Exchange is highlighting the global importance of this natural fibre and the cotton industry.

Cotton for Good – cotton that makes a difference

Under the guiding principle of ‘Cotton for Good’, cotton represents a globally interconnected value chain – from the field, through trade and processing, to the finished textile. Trust, transparency and reliable quality standards form the vital foundations for a functioning international trade system.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), more than 100 million families benefit from the cotton industry. For many producing countries, cotton is a key economic factor. At the same time, climate-related challenges, volatile markets and increasing demands for transparency and traceability are transforming the sector. Innovation and collaboration along the value chain are therefore becoming increasingly important.

Bremen as an international centre for the cotton trade

For more than 150 years, the Bremen Cotton Exchange has stood for quality, expertise and reliable conditions in the cotton trade. It connects stakeholders in the cotton and textile industries, promotes the exchange of knowledge and advocates for objective quality assessment and transparent trading conditions.

The BBB is also actively involved in the global activities marking World Cotton Day. As in the previous year, Galeria Karstadt, Bremen’s largest department store, has provided us with a shop window to raise awareness of World Cotton Day. On LinkedIn and Instagram, we were able to publish an interview with a cotton farmer from Greece in collaboration with Bremen Global and the European Cotton Alliance.

World Cotton Day thus also looks to the future: to the opportunities offered by a renewable natural fibre and a cotton industry that connects people and markets worldwide.
