Within the framework of the project “Sustainability and Value Added in the Cotton Economy” the Bremen Cotton Exchange provides advice to GIZ, the German organisation for international cooperation, on all questions arising around cotton. In December, Karsten Fröse, Director Cotton Quality, Rules and Market, took a trip to Cameroon, one of the four target countries of the programme. The trip’s aim was to explore the general situation of the country’s cotton economy and to get in contact with the participating parties on-site. During the visit of the cotton association CNPC-C and the cotton company Sodecoton in Garoua in the North of Cameroon, the situation of small farmers in cotton production was the predominant issue. Cotton expert Karsten Fröse and GIZ employees also went to see ginning and spinning companies to form their opinion about further processing in the country. Based on the trip’s results, further measures will be developed jointly in order to improve the cotton supply chain in this African country.
