9. June 2017 / GENERAL ASSEMBLY, JUNE 29TH! TOP STORY: „THE POLYESTER FLOOD“ – THE BACKGROUND TO THE SPIEGEL STORY

On June 29th, the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors invite the members of the Association of the Bremen Cotton Exchange to the Annual General Assembly. In addition to the regulatory processes, a highlight of the agenda is the exciting presentation by a competent guest speaker.

We have succeeded in finding a feisty speaker in the person of the experienced economic journalist Simone Salden, from the magazine ‘SPIEGEL’. With her presentation on “The polyester flood – how synthetic fibres are flooding our wardrobes and oceans”, she draws attention to a critical topic of the time, which is increasingly driving consumers and critically questions the buying of disposable fashion. The growing importance of corporate social responsibility in product development and transparent CSR strategies is also discussed.

In addition, she provides a look behind the scenes of her journalistic work and research, as well as giving tips for dealing with critical media enquiries in companies.

Born in 1978, Simone Salden completed her training in journalism at the prestigious German School of Journalism in Munich, after completing her master’s degree in ethnology and German at the University of Heidelberg. She began working as an editor at FAZ.net and joined the Frankfurt SPIEGEL office in 2006 as a correspondent. She has worked in the economics department since 2014 and moved to the SPIEGEL headquarters in Hamburg in 2016. She is responsible for trade, consumer goods, consumer protection and sustainability, among others in the textile industry.
