Representative office space
The building
The listed Kontorhaus from 1902 was originally built for the cotton trade. This is where the name “Cotton Exchange” comes from. The building is centrally located on the market square in the city center in the direct vicinity of the UNESCO World Heritage Site: City Hall and Roland, right next to the public transport junction “Domsheide”. The facade of the building was designed in the neo-Renaissance style. The magnificent interior has been preserved to this day – for example, the double-armed main staircase clad in white marble and the magnificently decorated, wrought-iron banister.
Tradition and modernity
The building is barrier-free accessible and has passenger and freight elevators in addition to the historic paternoster. In addition, the Cotton Exchange is at the cutting edge of technology (energy refurbishment, DSL technology, fiber optic connections in the building) to enable all tenants to work comfortably and efficiently.
Office space
In total, the Cotton Exchange has over 12,000 square meters of office, retail and warehouse space. Whereas in the past the tenants were mostly interwoven with the cotton trade, today the building is populated by lawyers and tax consultants, IT service providers, architects and small and medium-sized consulting firms, among others. But cotton is still present, too, with some cotton companies and the fiber testing center run by the Fiber Institute.
Access around the clock
The Kontorhaus is freely accessible from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Outside these hours, access is possible via transponder. From 4 to 8 p.m., gatekeepers monitor the house and are available to answer questions.
Property management
The property management office is located on the fourth floor of the Kontorhaus and is available in person and by phone from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Fridays. In addition to the gatekeepers, the property management employs a janitor and a building electrician to ensure proper use of the facility.
