The International Cotton Conference Bremen starts on 25 March in the Hanseatic city\u2019s historic Town Hall. But before subject-specific questions are discussed in depth in the individual sessions, the concise and inspiring keynotes by leading business experts from science and industry will draw attention to the current trends and challenges in the industry at the start of the conference. A large part of the presentations is shaped by the current discussion on environmental and sustainability issues and the resulting consequences for the global economy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Climate Change and Sustainability <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cClimate\nchange &#8211; a storm in a teacup?\u201d asks <strong>Kai\nHughes<\/strong>, Executive Director of the International Cotton Advisory Committee,\nWashington D.C., USA, in a provocative speech. The aim of his presentation is\nto work out the challenges of climate change especially for agriculture and\ncotton production. This should form the basis for later discussion on concrete\napproaches and solutions within the cotton community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/baumwollboerse.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Townhall-1024x755-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10136\" \/><figcaption>Bremen Townhall<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With his\nlecture \u201cThe HUGO BOSS sustainability programme &#8230; and what our customer has\nto do with it\u201d <strong>Andreas Streubig<\/strong>,\nDirector of Global Sustainability at Hugo Boss AG, Metzingen, Germany, rolls up\nthe textile value chain from a different angle, starting at the consumer level.\nAs a representative of a premium brand for women&#8217;s and men&#8217;s clothing, Streubig\ndiscusses sustainability as a strategic element of the corporate strategy and\nprovides information on how elements of the strategy are being implemented at\nHugo Boss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>R\u00fcdiger Senft<\/strong>, Head of Sustainability at Commerzbank, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, looks at the changing role of banks in financing the cotton market. In addition to a general introduction to the topic of sustainability and banking regulation, Senft&#8217;s presentation deals with the financing of the cotton trade from a social and ecological point of view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The opening\nsession on 25 March is hosted by <strong>Bill Ballenden<\/strong>, founder and owner of\nDragontree, Swindon, UK, an online auction platform for the cotton trade. As a\nformer cotton manager for Louis Dreyfus in Europe and Asia, Bill Ballenden has\nmany years of experience in the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cross-Cutting Issues: Digitalisation, Gender, Value\nChains<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/baumwollboerse.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Session-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10138\" width=\"315\" height=\"209\" \/><figcaption>Session in the Townhall<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nsubsequent session in the conference programme with the headline \u201cA Wider View\u201d\nis devoted to currently defining trends and important cross-cutting issues in\nthe industry. This goes far beyond classic cotton themes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A lecture\nby <strong>Mark Messura<\/strong>, Senior Vice\nPresident, Global Supply Chain Marketing for Cotton Incorporated, Cary, North\nCarolina, deals with the role of cotton in an increasingly digitally controlled\nsupply chain. Significant keywords here are faster delivery times, vertical\nintegration, transparency and traceability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The presentation by <strong>Roger Gilmartin<\/strong>, Managing Director of Tri-Blend Consulting, Charlotte, USA, entitled \u201cThe secret recipe for timely, cost-optimised and high-quality cotton clothing\u201d promises exciting and enlightening insights. Tri-Blend Consulting conducts studies on the performance of different cotton varieties during the entire consumption process to the finished yarn and evaluates them from an economic point of view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Amy\nJackson<\/strong>, from the Better\nCotton Initiative, London, UK, presents ICA Liverpool&#8217;s \u201cWomen in Cotton\u201d\ninitiative. With this commitment, the initiative aims to increase the influence\nof women in the cotton industry and give them a stronger voice, for example by building\nnetworks in cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Navdeep\nSingh Sodhi<\/strong>,\nInternational Strategic Management Consultant at the Gherzi Textile Organisation,\nSwitzerland, gives an insight into the current development of the value chain\nfor cotton, textiles and clothing in Africa. Looking ahead to the coming decades,\nalso in view of population growth, Africa is seen as having a high potential for\nbuilding economic structures to improve income and prosperity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thomas Schneider<\/strong>, Professor at the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin and active in the field of production planning and control, textile materials and materials testing will host the session. A leading light in his field, Thomas Schneider has more than 30 years of experience in scientific and application-oriented research in the textile and fibre sector, including at the Fibre Institute Bremen e.V.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the International Cotton Conference<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 25<sup>th<\/sup>\nto 27<sup>th<\/sup> March, the International Cotton Conference Bremen in the\nhistoric town hall offers ten highly topical conference sessions with relevant\nsubjects that currently challenge the internationally networked cotton textile\nindustry. The International Cotton Conference is organised by the Fibre\nInstitute Bremen (FIBRE) and the Bremen Cotton Exchange. During the week\nbeginning on March 23<sup>th<\/sup> and later additionally to the Conference,\ngroup meetings of internationally operating textile associations and cotton\norganisations will take place. In addition, there will be the public event\nSustain, organised in cooperation with the daily newspaper Weser-Kurier.
